Seven trees in a city park

On World Environment Day in June 1977, a small procession walked out of a conference centre in downtown Nairobi and kept going to Kamukunji Park on the edge of the city. There they planted seven trees, one for each of several historical community leaders. It was an unremarkable morning, and it was the first act of the Green Belt Movement, founded by the Kenyan scientist Wangari Maathai. Her idea was plain: give ordinary women seedlings, and let them replant the country themselves. It grew into a movement across Africa. In 2004 Maathai became the first African woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, for work that began with seven trees in a park.

What is a word search?

A word search is a grid of letters with words hidden inside it — placed across, down, or diagonally, and sometimes backwards — among random filler letters. You find each word from a list and mark it. Word searches build vocabulary and spelling recognition, which makes them a favourite for kids, ESL and language learners, and classrooms. Every puzzle here is free to play online or print as a PDF with an answer key, in ten languages.

Type a word list (a spelling list, a vocab set, a team roster) and we set it into a clean grid you can play on screen or print for the class.
